STEM Women in U.S. federal agencies [Women’s History Month]

For the month of March, in honor of Women’s History Month, I am dedicating my weekly blog posts to the outstanding organizations, resources, and inspiring stories about women in STEM. You can view my posts from last year and this year by searching on the tag “Women’s History Month”.

The U.S. Geological Survey, as well as NASA, the EPA, and other STEM-related federal agencies are taking time this month to celebrate the innovations by and contributions of women towards advancing each agency’s mission. The White House has an excellent website of “The Untold History of Women in Science and Technology,” but other groups highlight the contributions of individuals from the National Park Service to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

NOAA also has a website that highlights when, in 1972, “Women Change the Face of the NOAA Corps.”

Below you will find embedded tweets from different government agencies that highlight past and present women in STEM during Women’s History Month. Enjoy your exploration!

  1. On March 16, 2016, NASA and the White House celebrated Women’s History Month with a program at Goddard Space Flight Center called, “NASA Women in Action”. The event, which focused on women making an impact in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers, featured NASA Deputy Administrator Dr. Dava Newman, NASA Deputy Associate Administrator Lesa Roe, Ellen Stofan, the agency’s Chief Scientist, Johnson Space Center Director Ellen Ochoa, and guest speaker Valerie Jarrett, a Senior Advisor to President Obama.
